What is an XPU?
Central processing units were the first microelectronic functions to be abbreviated using three letters ending in PU. Other functions subsequently adopted similar names and abbreviations: graphics processing unit (GPU), microprocessing unit (MPU), network processing unit (NPU), neural processing unit (also NPU), vector processing unit (VPU), and others. As a placeholder for an arbitrary processing unit, we use the character X. Thus, XPU refers to any kind of processing function in microelectronics and semiconductors.
